“Animals…the great voiceless, voteless majority”
- Gerald Durrell
Animals are to quote- Gerald Durrell “the great voiceless, vote less majority” on our planet. Yet, they are dependent on us for their very survival.
What is truly heartening is that people- united by a common love for animals- have come together to form organizations around the world to work for animal welfare. These organizations are dotted around the world and draw inspiration from each other’s work. Jabalpur is a city which has a huge population of stray animals. Everyday large numbers of animals meet with accidents. Sometimes, they die on the spot- or they are grievously injured. The amount of suffering involved cannot be measured. The Society for Stray and Unsafe Animals (S.S.U.A.) is a non-profit organization which is committed to working for the welfare of the stray animals in Jabalpur, is registered under the M.P. Societies Registration Act, Reg. No.04/14/01/11017/09.
It has been started by a group of people from widely differing backgrounds. It is the first of its kind in Jabalpur.
The society chiefly looks after wounded and sick animals (either stray or abandoned). It provides medical care and/or post operative services.
